After we got back I started to think about how this related to a financial journey. In particular, how people invest in the market. If we had everything invested in Tarantula’s we would have had a bust, but we did find another type of spider and got something we were not expecting … an amazing lightning show! So, I took two things away from this journey.
- Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Like investing in one stock, if that stock goes bust then you have nothing. If you invest in multiple stocks and bonds, you diversify your risk and you are happy when another “spider” does well, when the spider you were looking for doesn’t show up!
- Life is a journey and it’s the ups and downs, the highs and the lows, that make us happy and apprehensive, but if you stay the course, you will get out of your journey what you put into it. It’s like working with a good coach to keep you on track even when everything isn’t going right. Your guide or coach puts you on the right track when you might be upset about not seeing any tarantulas. Instead, be happy that you have other things in your life or portfolio that are doing well at the moment.
That’s it for the week, my musings on our family trip, that made me think about how finding something unexpected relates to our financial journey through life. It isn’t always what we expect, but with proper planning and looking at the positive’s of what we have make it a successful trip!
